September 13, 2008
We were glued to the tv Friday night (9/12/08) until Michael and I took a short nap from
midnight until about 2am when the wind and rain really started to hit us hard.  We lost power
at 3:15am and by 5am the sound of the wind grew enormously and we moved the kids to the
"safe room".  We stayed there for the next few hours until the wind died back down.  We had
water seeping in from the chimney walls that came up under our wood floor in the living
room.  For a while we were sopping it up with towels and filled/dumped several buckets-ful
until we felt safer to go outside in the rain with the ladder where Michael fixed the leaks.  We
probably would have lost most of our living room (floor and furniture) if we had not been
there to fix the leak in the chimney.

We remained without power for a little over 7 days.  We endured the lines at several stores in
order to  purchase a generator, lines outside the grocery store to get in to buy ice and other
perishables, and lines at the gas station to buy gas for the generator.  It was crazy!

Through it all, we are so very thankful for God's protection and provision for us during the
storm and after.  It was a display of God's power that we will never forget.  What an awesome
God we serve!
We all slept down stairs that night
to be close to the safe room when
the winds began to hit.
This little tree frog and his daddy
tree frog kept jumping onto our
back door trying to get in during
the hurricane.  Poor little guy.
These are some of the tall pine
trees out back of our house.
These were almost bent over in
half during the heavy winds. The
winds were greatly reduced by the
time I could take this picture when
the light started to shine again.
There were limbs down covering
our lawn, but thankfully no major
tree loss near us.
Seventeen 42-gallon bags of trash
for clean-up of the front and back
lawn.  Whew!
After several days without power, the kids created
"shows" for me to video tape. :)
